Debt Explained UK provides general debt information and an introduction service. We collect enquiries and pass them to a third-party specialist debt-help company, which contacts applicants directly by telephone.

MJFC Marketing Ltd does not provide personalised debt advice, determine which debt solution is suitable for you, or telephone applicants to discuss their debt options.

2. Information we collect

Depending on how you use our website and service, we may collect:

  • Your name, telephone number and email address.
  • The approximate amount of debt and other basic debt information you provide in your enquiry.
  • Any preferred contact time you provide.
  • Messages you send us about your enquiry, privacy rights or a complaint.
  • Records of your contact preferences and permissions, including the date, time and wording presented when permission was requested.
  • Records of your referral and any withdrawal of consent.
  • Limited referral progress or outcome information from the receiving company, where necessary to administer the introduction.
  • Technical information such as your IP address, browser type and website security logs.
  • Website referral or campaign information, where lawfully collected.

We collect information directly from you, through the operation of our website and, where applicable, from the company receiving your referral.

Our initial enquiry form does not ask for your residential address, bank statements, account numbers or medical information. Please do not send sensitive documents or information about other people through the form.

Providing an enquiry is voluntary. We need sufficient contact information and the necessary permissions to arrange the requested introduction.

3. How we use your information and our lawful bases

We use personal information to:

  • Receive and administer your enquiry.
  • Arrange an introduction to a specialist debt-help company.
  • Enable that company to telephone you about your enquiry.
  • Send administrative acknowledgements relating to your request.
  • Maintain referral records and administer any referral payments.
  • Record and respect your contact preferences.
  • Respond to correspondence, complaints and data-protection requests.
  • Protect our website and prevent misuse.
  • Meet applicable legal obligations.

We use the following lawful bases for these activities:

Consent

We rely on consent for sharing your enquiry with a specialist debt-help company and arranging the telephone contact you have requested. You can withdraw consent at any time using the contact details in this policy.

Where consent is required for cookies or similar technologies, we will obtain it separately before those technologies are used.

Legitimate interests

We may process information where necessary to administer our service, send an enquiry acknowledgement, maintain appropriate records, manage referral payments, respond to correspondence or complaints, prevent misuse and protect our systems.

These activities support our interests in operating a reliable service, keeping accurate records and resolving problems. We consider the effect on your privacy and do not rely on legitimate interests where your rights and interests override ours.

Legal obligations

We may process information to comply with applicable legal requirements, including data-protection obligations and relevant tax or accounting recordkeeping requirements.

4. Sharing your enquiry with a specialist debt-help company

Debt Explained UK, operated by MJFC Marketing Ltd, provides an introduction service.

We share the contact details and debt information you provide in your enquiry with a third-party specialist debt-help company for the purpose of responding to your request for help.

The receiving company will contact you directly by telephone to discuss your circumstances and the options that may be available to you. MJFC Marketing Ltd does not telephone applicants to discuss their debts or provide personalised debt advice.

The receiving company is responsible for its own handling of your personal information and for providing its own privacy information.

We may receive a payment for the introduction. We may also receive limited information about the progress or outcome of your referral to administer that arrangement.

We do not treat your enquiry as permission for unrelated marketing.

5. Other organisations that may handle your information

Where necessary, information may also be handled by:

  • Our customer relationship management provider, HubSolv.
  • Website hosting, IT support and security providers.
  • Providers of administrative email or messaging services.
  • Authorised personnel supporting our enquiry administration.
  • Professional advisers, such as accountants or legal advisers.
  • Regulators, courts or public authorities where disclosure is legally required or otherwise permitted by law.

Access is limited to what is necessary for the relevant purpose.

Suppliers processing information on our behalf must act under appropriate contractual instructions and confidentiality requirements.

6. Contact preferences and withdrawing consent

The debt-help contact requested through our enquiry service is a telephone call from a specialist debt-help company.

An administrative email or text message may acknowledge your enquiry or confirm arrangements for the requested contact. This does not give permission for unrelated promotional messages.

You can withdraw your consent at any time by emailing info@mjfcmarketing.co.uk. You can also tell the receiving company that you no longer want it to contact you.

If you withdraw consent before your enquiry has been passed on, we will stop the referral. If it has already been passed on, we will notify the receiving company of your withdrawal.

Withdrawal does not affect processing that was lawful before consent was withdrawn. We may retain limited records for separate purposes explained in this policy, such as recording your withdrawal, handling a complaint or meeting a legal obligation.

7. Security and international processing

We use appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect personal information against unauthorised access, loss, misuse or disclosure.

Access is restricted to people and suppliers who need the information for their work.

International processing arrangements

Our website is delivered through a global hosting and content delivery network, and its fonts are served by Adobe Fonts. These providers may process technical information, such as your IP address, in other countries, including the United States. Your enquiry details are stored in our HubSolv customer relationship management system. Where personal information is transferred outside the UK, we rely on UK adequacy regulations (including the UK Extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework where applicable) or the ICO’s International Data Transfer Agreement or Addendum as appropriate safeguards.

Where transfer safeguards apply, you can request further information or a copy of the relevant safeguards by emailing info@mjfcmarketing.co.uk.

8. How long we keep information

We keep personal information only for as long as necessary for the purpose for which it is held.

The retention period depends on:

  • Whether your enquiry or referral remains active.
  • When the last meaningful activity concerning the enquiry occurred.
  • Whether records are needed to demonstrate permissions or respond to a complaint.
  • Any applicable legal, tax or accounting requirements.
  • Whether information is reasonably needed to establish, exercise or defend a legal claim, taking account of applicable time limits.

We review information when an enquiry closes and periodically afterwards. Information that is no longer needed is deleted or anonymised.

If you ask not to be contacted, we may keep a minimal suppression record to help ensure your preference is respected.

The receiving specialist company applies its own retention arrangements, which should be explained in its privacy information.

9. Cookies and similar technologies

Our website may use cookies and similar technologies to operate the site, maintain security and remember your preferences.

Where consent is legally required, technologies used for analytics, advertising or tracking will only operate after you have given that consent.

Submitting a debt-help enquiry does not itself give consent to advertising or tracking technologies.

This website does not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. Our hosting platform (Lovable) runs a basic visitor statistics script (flock.js) that counts page views and visits. It may set a short-lived first-party session identifier that expires after around 30 minutes of inactivity, and it is not used to identify you personally or for advertising. Our fonts are loaded from Adobe Fonts, which may receive your IP address and browser details in order to deliver them. You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings without affecting your ability to use the enquiry form. If we introduce further non-essential cookies or similar technologies in future, we will ask for your consent first and update this section with details of each technology, its provider, purpose and duration.

10. Your data-protection rights

Depending on the circumstances, you may have the right to:

  • Request access to your personal information and a copy of it.
  • Ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete information.
  • Ask us to delete your information.
  • Ask us to restrict how we use your information.
  • Receive information you supplied in a portable format, where the relevant conditions apply.
  • Withdraw consent for processing based on consent.

These rights are subject to applicable conditions and exceptions.

Your right to object

You can object to processing based on our legitimate interests for reasons relating to your particular situation.

You have an absolute right to object to the use of your personal information for direct marketing, including any profiling connected with that marketing.

To exercise your rights, email info@mjfcmarketing.co.uk or write to the address in section 1.

We may request proportionate information to confirm your identity. We will respond within the applicable legal timeframe and explain any lawful extension or reason we cannot fulfil a request.

11. Automated processing and children

Our systems may automatically record and route enquiries or send acknowledgements.

MJFC Marketing Ltd does not make decisions based solely on automated processing that have legal or similarly significant effects on you. Submitting an enquiry is not an automated assessment of your eligibility for a debt solution.

Our enquiry service is intended for people aged 18 or over.

12. Complaints

If you have concerns about how MJFC Marketing Ltd handles your personal information, please email info@mjfcmarketing.co.uk.

You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office, the UK data-protection regulator. You do not have to wait for our complaints process to finish before contacting the ICO.

13. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy to reflect changes to our service, processing or legal obligations.

The latest version will be published at debtexplaineduk.co.uk/privacy with an updated date.
